The method involves piercing or cutting individual parts e.g. rotary latch (4), ratchet (5) and blockade lever, from a sheet-like base material. The parts are trimmed, hardened, covered with plastic and formed into a unit. The parts are combinely pierced or cut so that connection of the parts is maintained after combined piercing or cutting of the parts over a preset breaking point or a subsequent disconnection point. The preset breaking point is produced during piercing or cutting by laser processing. An independent claim is also included for a unit comprising a safety catch.
