The camshaft (1) has a base shaft (2) including external teeth (3), and a cam carrier (5) axially supported on the base shaft in a relocatable manner, where the cam carrier comprises internal teeth (6) cooperating with the external teeth. The external teeth and/or internal teeth are manufactured from glass and/or carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. Cam elements (9-12) are located on the cam carrier, which is made of plastic and squirted around the cam elements. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a cam shaft.
