The system has a variable valve control device (40) for adjusting a valve opening time point of an exhaust valve (38). A particulate matter (PM) estimator determines increase of quantity of particulate matters produced in a combustion chamber based on a drive condition of a direct injection machine i.e. internal combustion engine (11). An electronic control unit (30) controls the variable valve control device such that the valve opening time point of the exhaust valve is delayed when the quantity of particulate matters in the combustion chamber is increased.
