358,347. Chucks. VEREINIGTE STAHLWERKE AKT.-GES., 67, Breitestrasse, Dusseldorf, Germany. Nov. 24, 1930, No. 35392. Convention date, Dec. 12, 1929. [Class 83 (iii).] In a self-centring chuck the jaws are moved radially by lever-actuated toothed segments engaging radially arranged worms on the jaws, the range of adjustment of the chuck being varied by rotating the worms about their axes, either individually or collectively. The worms 3 are rotatably mounted in recesses 4 in the jaws 1 and are engaged by toothed segments 5 rockable about pivots 6 in the body 2. Arms 7 on the segments engage a sleeve 8 which is axially movable to open or close the chuck by pneumatic or hydraulic means or by other means such as mechanical or electromagnetic means. In a modification the arms 7 are extended to pass through the chuck spindle and are engaged by a plunger on the end of a draw spindle. The worms 3 may be rotated individually by a key &c. as shown in Fig. 1 or collectively by means of pinions 11, Fig. 4, thereon meshing with an annular gear 12, in which case individual adjustment may be given to the jaws by screws 15 rotatable in the jaw bodies 13. |
