摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an optically activeγ-lactone efficiently and simply by using aγ-lactone as a starting material, and by suppressing side reactions to improve the efficiency of the reaction and shorten the production steps. SOLUTION: The process for producing an optically activeγ-lactone includes a step of hydrolyzing a (±)-γ-lactone using an inorganic alkali in water or a mixed solvent of water and a solvent soluble in water to produce a hydroxyalkanoic acid alkali salt, then neutralizing the same with an inorganic acid in an equivalent amount or more relative to the used inorganic alkali under the presence of an organic solvent which is separable from water and extracting the hydroxyalkanoic acid in an organic solvent phase, a step of adding an optically activeα-phenylethylamine to the organic solvent phase to crystallize a sparingly-soluble optically activeγ-hydroxyalkanoic acidα-phenylethyl amine salt as a crystal, a step of subjecting the resultant crystal to metathetical reaction with an acid to produce an optically activeγ-hydroxyalkanoic acid, and a step of converting the same to an optically activeγ-lactone through cyclodehydration reaction.
