PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an atomic oscillator which improves short term frequency stability. SOLUTION: Since a solenoid coil 5 is prepared along two bottoms 71, 72 of a magnetic shield 7 on an optical axis X of a laser light 11 and a laser light 12, a length of the solenoid coil 5 can be made long compared to a length of an atomic cell 2. Since the atomic cell 2 is located between a laser light source 1 and a laser light detector 3, the atomic cell 2 is approximately located in the middle the solenoid coil 5. Since a magnetic field is more constant in a center part 23 of the solenoid coil 5, nearly uniform magnetic field can be impressed to an alkali metal element 6, and energy difference of energy levels after Zeeman splitting can be made stable. Therefore, the frequency approaches to a single resonance frequency, an atomic resonance signal can be made sharp, and the atomic oscillator 10 improving the short term frequency stability can be obtained.
