PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tripod for a surveying instrument which enables simple and easy adjustment of the height of leg parts. SOLUTION: Each leg part 13 which is so attached to the leg head part of the tripod as to be openable has: fixed leg pipes 14 which are so supported that the upper portions are rotatable in relation to the leg head part; a movable leg pipe 15 which is so supported as to be slidably movable along the leg part in the longitudinal direction in relation to the fixed leg pipes 14; and a fixing device 16 which is provided for fixing and retaining the movable leg pipe 15 in a desired relative position in relation to the fixed leg pipes 14.
