PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera having enhanced accuracy of focus adjustment. SOLUTION: The electronic camera includes: an imaging element 2 repeatedly capturing an object field image through an imaging optical system 1; a recognizing means 12 recognizing the region of the object image from a first imaging signal obtained by the imaging element 2; a computing means 12 (10, 11) computing a first focus evaluation value corresponding to the region of the object image based on the first imaging signal; and a removing means 12 (9) removing a frequency component of a predetermined band from a second imaging signal obtained by the imaging element 2 in accordance with at least one of the first focus evaluation value and a controlled sensitivity value obtained by exposure computation.
