<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of removing soiling on both the surface of a transparent plate, such as a glass plate, and the surface of an original guide member facing the transparent plate, and to provide an image forming apparatus with the image reading apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus B is configured to convey an original G between the transparent plate 52 and the original guide member 51, and read the image on the original G moving on the transparent plate 52 through the transparent plate 52. The image reading apparatus B includes: a primary cleaning member 71 which movably passes through between the transparent plate 52 and the original guide member 51 while rubbing the surface 52a of the transparent plate 52 and the surface 51a of the original guide member 51; and a driving means 76 for allowing the primary cleaning member 71 to movably pass through between the transparent plate 52 and the original guide member 51.
