Methods and apparatus to forward documents in a communication network are disclosed. An example method to forward a resource in an extensible markup language (XML) document management (XDM) system (600) disclosed herein comprises receiving an XML document command protocol (XDCP) forward request specifying a first identifier corresponding to the resource to be forwarded and a list of recipients to be notified, the first identifier comprising a uniform resource identifier (URI), and notifying a recipient (102b) in the list of recipients that the resource is available.
