The device has an operating seal (31) for sealing against a ball surface in a position. A service seal (32) seals against the ball surface in another position. Adjusting units move the device between the two positions. The service seal is arranged at a sealing housing (10). The operating seal is detachably arranged at the housing and a cover (20). The adjustment units exhibit a screw (41) and a nut (42), which connects the housing and the cover with each other. The housing includes a spring element (43) for moving the device from the latter position into the former position. An independent claim is also included for a method for maintaining a ball seal device for sealing against a ball surface of a ball.
