<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device and an electronic display device usable in a bent condition, and providing low power, high luminance, and a long life. <P>SOLUTION: This electronic display device 1A is equipped with the backlight device 2 and a light modulator 3A both having flexibility. The backlight device 2 is formed by laminating an electronic circuit substrate in which a plurality of light emitting diodes 23 are two-dimensionally mounted on a flexible substrate body 22, and flexible light diffusing sheets 26, 27 diffusing light emitted from the light emitting diodes 23.
