On a BD-ROM, subtitle streams to be reproduced in synchronization with video streams and playlist information are recorded.  The playlist information includes PlayItem information and a display mode flag.  The PlayItem information defines a segment to be reproduced using information indicating In_Time and Out_Time along the reproduction time axis of the video stream and includes a stream information table.  The display mode flag indicates whether control of the display mode of the subtitles is enabled or disabled during the segment.  The stream information table has information instructing the reproducing device to select one of the subtitle streams when the display mode is enabled during the segment.
