PURPOSE: A washing machine and a control method thereof are provided to improve the stability and laundry balancing by controlling the dispersion of laundry. CONSTITUTION: A control method for a washing machine comprises a step of operating a drum at a first speed so that a part of laundry is moved within the drum while the other adheres to the interior of the drum, a step of operating the drum at a second speed lower than the first speed so as to promote the movement of the laundry, and a step of operating the drum at a third speed lower than the second speed so as to promote the movement of the laundry farther.
