(Also in Group IX] A method of making a cord suitable for stringing tennis &c. rackets, comprises coating a core of textile material A made of a synthetic long-chain polymer, e.g. nylon or ethylene glycol terephthalate, with an adhesive containing alcohol-soluble nylon and a high concentration of phenol, e.g. by passing the core through a bath 3 of the same, and helically winding there' on one or more layers of a textile material made of a synthetic long-chain polymer, e.g. nylon or ethylene glycol terephthalate, furnished from bobbins 4. The wrapped core D is wiped at 5, to remove surplus bonding solution, dried at 8, 9 by electric heaters and wound up at 7. The core may be a nylon monofilament 0.042 inches in diameter and the wrappings B, C of 0.005 inch diameter monofilament nylon yarns comprising 23 to 25 ends respectively, wrapped in opposite directions. The adhesive may also contain an isocyanate. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 732,535.</p> |
