PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the backrest device of a chair, which is capable of concealing screws for attachment, reducing the number of components and reducing a cost in the chair structured such that a backrest plate is attached between backrest support rods raised on both sides of the rear part of a seat portion. SOLUTION: For the backrest plate 12, an inner shell 17 provided with a cushion portion 16 on the front surface is fitted to the front side of an outer shell 15 made of a synthetic resin and is integrated. A cylindrical portion 18 opened downward is integrally formed at right and left side parts of the outer shell, the cylindrical portion is externally fitted to the upper end part of the backrest support rod 11 and is fixed to the backrest support rod with a screw made to pass through from the inner side of the cylindrical portion, the inner shell is fitted to the outer shell, and the screw 19 is concealed.
