PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distributed multimedia server system that allows addition of disk servers simply.

SOLUTION: The distributed multimedia server system 10 has a buffer server BS, a disk server DS, and an index server IS which are interconnected through a connection network 51 between clusters. The index server IS manages the number and order of disk servers DS. The buffer server BS transfers the multimedia information received from a terminal unit to the number of disk servers managed by the index server IS in the order managed by the index server IS cyclically. The disk server DS stores the multimedia information transferred from the buffer server BS in a storage device. The index server IS records the information related to the disk server DS having the storage device storing the multimedia information and its order together with the metadata related to the stored multimedia information.
