A pliable, sealed package (68) made from one or more flexible films (5, 56) is used to store an uncooked dough product (46), with the dough product (46) proofing within the sealed package (68) so as to establish and maintain a greater than ambient pressure within the sealed package (68). In accordance with an aspect of the invention, the overall package (68) is produced utilizing a horizontal form, fill and seal system (2). The sealed package (68) can be shrunk and/or wrapped to also provide an external force which is essentially transferred to static pressure with the package (68).
