<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sanitary mask which proves more useful by covering the nose and the mouth with a covering portion and forming a sufficient breathing space. <P>SOLUTION: The covering portion 10 of the sanitary mask includes a pleat forming portion 24 including a box pleat 26 and side pleats 28 and 30 which transversely extend, and has a shape symmetrically removing both lower corners of a horizontal rectangle 50. The length of the lower edge 54 of the covering portion 10 is 70% of the length of the rectangle 50, and the heights of the removed portions 52 are 50% of the height of the rectangle 50. The edges of both lower corners of the covering portion 10 are outwardly convex and single arcuate edges 56 forming arcs of one circle. Two ear straps 12 are hung on the ears, the pleats 26, 28, and 30 are extended upward and downward to form swollen portions and cover a user's nose, mouth and the surroundings. The side edges 38 and the lower edge 86 are, however, pulled toward the face, making the mask less baggy and fittable and well prevents dust or the like from intruding into the swollen portions. The lower portions of the side edges 38 less poke out from the face and the lower edge 86 less extends downward from the jaw.
