The invention relates to a device for humidifying a bulk commodity (11), particularly for humidifying power plant filter ash. The device comprises a down pipe (14), an inlet (13) being implemented at the upper end thereof, through which the bulk commodity (11) enters the down pipe (14), and an outlet (16) being implemented at the lower end thereof, through which the bulk commodity (11) exits in a humidified state. According to the invention, a plurality of water nozzles (20, 31) is disposed in a first plane (17) in the down pipe (14) and a plurality of water nozzles (20, 31) is disposed in a second plane (18) in the down pipe (14). The water nozzles (20, 31) of the first plane (17) are offset at an angle to the water nozzles (20, 31) of the second plane (18). By means of the device according to the invention, the bulk commodity can be effectively humidified, and deposits of the bulk commodity can be removed from the down pipe. The invention further relates to a corresponding method.
