ABSORPTION PROCESS USING A MEMBRANE

Object of the present invention is to provide a membrane absorption and permeation method which facilitates absorption into the absorption liquid. In a first aspect this object is met by transferring at least one compound from a feed stream to an absorption liquid stream comprising: - feeding said feed stream to a feed stream compartment of a membrane unit; - feeding said absorption liquid stream to an absorption liquid compartment of said membrane unit; - wherein in said membrane unit said feed stream compartment and said absorption liquid compartment are separated by a membrane; - wherein said absorption liquid flows through said absorption liquid compartment in a direction that is essentially parallel to said membrane; - wherein the residence time of said absorption liquid in said membrane unit is t; wherein t = V/fv, wherein V is the volume of said absorption liquid compartment and fv is the volumetric flow rate of said absorption liquid stream; and - wherein for a duration less than t the flow direction of said absorption liquid is changed.
