<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bill discrimination device for more quickly and accurately discriminating the kind of a bill with holes on its surface. <P>SOLUTION: The bill discrimination device is provided with: a light source 12 for irradiating a partial region A with at least two of red, green and blue beams; a light reception part 14 for receiving the light generated from the partial region as received light when the partial region A is irradiated with the irradiating light; a hole image data creation part 22 for creating hole image data as the image data of holes in the partial region for each color of the irradiating light from the received light; a hole feature extraction part 24 for extracting the featured values of the holes from the hole image data; a collation part 26 for collating the kind of the bill from the result of comparing the featured values of the holes with reference data stored in advance; and an output part 30 for outputting the irradiation result of the irradiation part.
