<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of providing comfortable reproduction operations by newly generating an entry point independently of the presence of the entry point attached in advance to moving picture data in reproducing the moving picture data recorded by another apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A recording and reproducing apparatus 300 disclosed herein uses processing of a decoder 8 or the like to reproduce an MPEG stream of a title recorded by the other apparatus, uses the MPEG stream decoded by a decoder 88 whose processing speed is faster than that of the decoder 8 to extract a characteristic point prior to the reproduction and generates entry point information on the basis of the characteristic point. The apparatus 300 utilizes the generated entry point information to provide comfortable reproduction operations even when the other apparatus records the entry point information with lower accuracy to the MPEG stream. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
