PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die clamping device ensuring brake operation. SOLUTION: The die clamping device 3 of a die cast machine 1 has a fixed die plate 11 for holding a fixed die 503, and a movable die plate 13 which holds a movable die 505 and is movable in the die opening/closing direction with respect to the fixed die plate 11. The die clamping device 3 has a motor 23 generating the driving force for driving the movable die plate 13, a brake 28 for braking the motor 23 by the friction resistance, and a motor sensor 67 for detecting the operation of the motor 23. Further, the die cast machine 1 includes a control device 7 which outputs the control signal for causing the motor 23 to generate the driving force while the braking force is demonstrated by the brake 28, and determines presence/absence of any abnormality in the brake 28 based on the result of detection of the motor sensor 67 in that condition.
