<p>Provided is a fiber-spreading method that can uniformly distribute the fibers of a fiber bundle having an increased number of fibers, thereby forming a thin, wide spread fiber sheet having a uniform thickness. A set of regions Si are arranged in a movable region M which is set so that the fibers of a fiber bundle can move in the width direction. Each region Si comprises a fiber-spreading region Ai and an expansion region Bi. Each fiber-spreading region Ai moves the fibers in the width direction while bending said fibers by letting a fluid pass through the fiber bundle, thereby spreading the fiber bundle to a width Wi (i = 1, ..., n). In each expansion region Bi, which is set upstream in the conveyance direction from the corresponding fiber-spreading region Ai, the width of the fiber bundle expands as it moves towards the end of the expansion region, accompanying the width-direction movement of the fibers in the fiber-spreading region Ai. Thus, the width-direction movement phenomenon, due to the fibers in the fiber bundle being distributed in fiber-spreading region Ai, extends to the upstream expansion region Bi, resulting in pre-spreading and allowing the fibers to be uniformly distributed in fiber-spreading region Ai, increasing the width to a prescribed width with a uniform thickness.</p> |
