摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the focusing performance for an object of high contrast existing at a low illuminance by adjusting the length of the specification period with reference to contrast of a subject field when a focusing point is predetermined strictly. SOLUTION: An imaging device 16 of an electronic camera has an imaging surface for capturing the subject field through a focus lens 12, and periodically outputs a subject field image. In coarse adjustment AF processing, a CPU 30 adjusts the length of the imaging period to that corresponding to the illuminance of the subject field, and moves the focus lens 12 by "Wrough". The CPU 30 further specifies the distance range including the focusing point as a fine adjustment range based on the subject field image output from the imaging device 16 in parallel with lens moving processing for each "Wrough". In fine adjustment AF processing, the CPU 30 adjusts the length of the imaging period to that corresponding to the contrast of the subject field, and moves the focus lens 12 by "Wfine" in the fine adjustment range. The CPU 30 further specifies the distance range corresponding to the focusing point based on the subject field image output from the imaging device 16 in parallel with lens moving processing for each "Wfine".
