<p>Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device which is provided with pixels each including a plurality of first linear orientation-regulating structures (22) disposed on a side of a first substrate adjacent to a liquid crystal layer and a plurality of second linear orientation-regulating structures (44) disposed on a side of a second substrate adjacent to the liquid crystal layer. The first linear orientation-regulating structures include first components (22a) extending along a first axis and second components (22b) extending along a second axis different from the first axis. The second linear orientation-regulating structures include first components (44a) extending along the first axis and second components (44b) extending along the second axis. The second linear orientation-regulating structures are linear dielectric protrusions. The liquid crystal display device further includes connecting dielectric protrusions (45a, 45b, 45c) each connecting two noncollinear linear dielectric protrusions that are included in pixels adjacent to each other. A plurality of edges of the connecting dielectric protrusions extend in directions different from those of edges of the first electrode (21), and at the same time, include at least one edge extending in a direction different from those of edges of the linear dielectric protrusions. With this, design flexibility of an MVA mode liquid crystal display device can be improved without degrading the display quality.</p> |
