PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material assembly for a disc brake capable of reducing cost, capable of improving assembling performance, and having excellent follow-up performance to deformation in the peripheral direction and the radial direction of a disc rotor. SOLUTION: In a plurality of friction material segments 9a-9d juxtaposed in the rotor peripheral direction on a support plate 7 fixed to an anchor plate 5, a friction material 23 fixed to a back board 21 is divided into a plurality of unit friction material blocks 31 by a slit S1 extending in the rotor peripheral direction, and the unit friction material blocks 31 at the inner peripheral side and the outer peripheral side of the respective segments are fixed to a seating part 11 protrusively formed on the support plate 7, and the back board 21 of the respective segments is held whiel floating from the support plate 7 except for the seating part 11.
