A camera device (1) is provided with an image capturing unit (3) which outputs a long exposure signal and a short exposure signal within a field period, a knee processing unit (12) which compresses a long exposure signal at a luminance level of a knee point or higher with a predetermined compressibility (namely, reduces the inclination of an incident light quantity-luminance level line which expresses the change of a luminance level with respect to an incident light quantity), and a knee control unit (14) which adjusts the knee point and the compressibility on the basis of the luminance level of a synthesized signal obtained by synthesizing the long exposure signal and the short exposure signal. In the knee control operation, the knee point and the compressibility are so adjusted that with the increase in the luminance level of the synthesized signal of the long exposure signal and the short exposure signal, the knee point is lowered and the inclination of the incident light quantity-luminance level line is returned to the original thereof. Accordingly, an image having a clear contrast in a bright portion within a screen is obtained. |
