PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of shortening a period of blackout. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging unit which forms the optical image of an optical system by an imaging element and generates an image signal based upon the optical image; a display control unit which makes a display unit successively display successively picked-up images based on the image signal from the imaging unit before a release signal is input; and a photography control unit which makes a recording unit record a photographed image based on the image signal from the imaging unit in response to the input of the release signal. The display control unit makes the display unit successively display the successively picked-up images based on the image signal from the imaging unit even after the release signal is input.
