<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backstay spreader attachable between a pair of backstay sections on a crane to easily perform extending/contracting setting in a working attitude or a storage attitude. <P>SOLUTION: A backstay spreader 51 includes first and second members 52, 53 each having a backstay section connector 54, 55 at a first end and a pivoting joint connector 56, 57 at a second end. In these pivoting joint connectors, the first and second members are used by pivoting connection 58, and have respective extending sections which are extended in directions separated from the pivoting connection part at a certain angle therebetween. When an actuator 83 mounted between the pivoting joint connectors is urged in a direction where two extending sections get closer to each other, the first and second members are pivoted around the pivoting connection part as a center and the first and second backstay sections are operated in directions further away from each other.
