The method involves entering and execution of instructions (1a) for monitoring time via push buttons (A, B), remote operating device or an ignition key of a motor vehicle (2) alternative to a time monitoring system, which is controlled by operating elements of the motor vehicle. A data display (6) is activated by selection of time monitoring function such that additional auxiliary information is displayed, during time monitoring, where the auxiliary information includes blinking numbers of the changeable time display and daylight saving time-status.
