An easily mountable automatic door closing device for a sliding door. The device has a flexibly woundable door closing cord (18) mounted to a door frame so as to extend in the opening and closing direction of the sliding door (20), a rotating member (32) mounted to the sliding door so as to be rotatable about an axis located at a predetermined position, an engagement holding member (36) for engaging the door closing cord with the peripheral surface of the rotating member, and a spring device which, when the rotating member rolls on the door closing code as the sliding door is moved from a door-closed position to a door-open position, accumulates in the spring device an urging spring force for rotating the rotating member in the direction opposite the direction in which the rotating member rolls. |
