DISPOSABLE FLUID HANDLING CASSETTE FOR PERITONEAL DIALYSIS

The present invention relates to a peritoneal dialysis system comprising a fluid handling cassette (24) having a patient line (34) for being fluidly connected to and leading from the peritoneal cavity of a patient, which includes at least one pump chamber (181) to move dialysate solution in the patient line (34). The system also comprises a cycler (14) arranged to receive and interact with the fluid handling cassette (24) and cause the at least one pump chamber (181) to move dialysate solution in the patient line (34), the cycler (14) including a control system arranged to control the at least one pump chamber (181) to operate in a priming operation to force dialysate solution into the patient line (34) so as to remove any air in the patient line (34). The cycler (14) is adapted to interact with two types of fluid handling cassettes (24) that differ with respect to a volume of the patient line (34) connected to the cassette body, a first type of fluid handling cassette (24) having a relatively low volume patient line (34), and a second type of fluid handling cassette (24) having a relatively high volume patient line (34). The control system is arranged to detect whether a fluid handling cassette (24) received by the cycler (14) is a first type or a second type and to adjust cycler operation accordingly. The invention also relates to a fluid handling cassette for such a peritoneal dialysis system.
