<p>A cross-laminate web (1) is disclosed. The web formed from two cross-oriented, semi-fibrillated, heat sealed plies of thermoplastic polymer films. The cross-laminate (1) consists of linear thin (4) regions of bi-axially oriented material and thicker linear bosses (2) between the thinner regions (4). The webs are sealed primarily through bonds (3) formed at the intersection of thicker boss (2) regions. The distance between bosses (2) is less than 2 mm. A method for forming the cross-laminate (1) involves segmental stretching of the material to form thinner regions (4) between the bosses (2) using an apparatus comprising intermeshing grooved stretching rollers having sharp-edged crests.</p> |
