An oligosaccharide for a Meningitidis vaccine comprising a first mannose unit linked to a second mannose unit through a 1,6-linkage which connects the C-6 of the first unit to the C-1 of the second unit wherein the 1,6-linkage comprises a phosphonate. The oligosaccharide also comprises a spacer moiety in the alpha configuration at the C-1 of the first mannose unit that is capable of conjugating to a carrier protein. The preferred carrier protein is an inactivated bacterial toxin selected from diphtheria toxoid, pertussis toxoid, E. coli LT, E. coli ST, Pseudomonas aeruginosa exotoxin (rEPA) or tetanus toxoid. Also encompassed are compositions comprising said oligosaccharide further comprising an antigen from Streptococcus pneumoniae or from Meningitidis serotypes A, B, C, W135 and Y.
