<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positron CT (computed tomography) apparatus capable of achieving the speedup of image reconstruction and the reconstruction method. <P>SOLUTION: An end-point selecting part 11 selects simultaneously-counted points in the interior of a crystal in each of two gamma-ray detectors 3, using quasi-random numbers. A sub-LOR (line of response) determining part 12 determines a sub-LOR that is a virtual straight line connecting the two gamma-ray detectors 3 by connecting the points that are selected by the end-point selecting part 11 and are set as end-points. A system matrix calculating part 13 determines a system matrix by computing the detection probability for each of the sub-LORs. Thus, data required prior to the calculation of the system matrix is reduced to the sub-LORs obtained at sampling points (end-points) that are less than the conventional case where all sub-LORs obtained by uniform dividing is divided.
