PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve subordinate rotation properties of a workpiece, and to improve polishing accuracy by eliminating vibration phenomenon of the workpiece. SOLUTION: A holding shaft 6 held through a bearing 14 on the side of a workpiece holding device H, and a pasting pedestal 3 fixing a lens 1 through thermoplastic adhesive 2, are connected to each other in a free state through a connection shaft 5. Using a paste plate S1 with a sliding member 4 having a small coefficient of friction disposed between the pasting pedestal 3 and the holding shaft 6, relative sliding dislocations of the sliding member 4 and the holding shaft 6 achieve a smooth subordinate rotation of the lens 1 relative to a tool 9, thereby polishing the lens 1 with high accuracy, without being affected by variations of starting torque and vibrations of the bearing 14.
