<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize environmental pollution and noise during the operation and reduce fuel consumption using a small engine in a work machine on which an engine is mounted together with a battery. <P>SOLUTION: This battery-driven work machine includes traveling motors 11, 12 for a base carrier 1 and a hydraulic pump 21 for driving an actuator constituted of a boom cylinder 13, an arm cylinder 14, and a bucket cylinder 15. The hydraulic pump 21 is driven by an electric motor 22. The electric motor 22 and an electric motor for slewing 10 are driven by a battery 24. A power supply device 26 constituted of an engine 27, a generator 29, and a power storage control means 30 is further mounted on the work machine. The engine 27 is driven so that the rotational speed and the output torque are constant for power generation. The work machine further includes the controlled engine 27 and the generator 29 driven by the engine.
