PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with a state where range-finding is impossible caused by polarization, in a range-finding device and an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: The range-finding device includes: first and second polarizing elements which are arranged in positions different from each other on a surface conjugate to the pupil of an objective lens and are different in polarizing characteristics; a polarization separation element which separates a first luminous flux which has passed through the first polarizing element and a second luminous flux which has passed through the second polarizing element; a first imaging element which images a first image by the first luminous flux; a second imaging element which images a second image by the second luminous flux; and a focus detecting means which detects a focus state, based on the relative deviation between the first image and the second image.
