The l id assembly includes first a nd second portions connected by a frangible hinge to hold a pod containing a brew substance, such as coffee g rounds, a nd a M p on the second portion to secure the assembly to a cu p. After brewing, the first portion may be discarded, by tea ring the frangible hinge, a long with the pod. The second portion includes a frangible tab that allows consumption of the beverage without removing the second portion altogether. Other brew substances, such as tea, cocoa, bouillon, etc., may be used.
