PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an axial gap type rotary electric machine having a stator with no coil in which a magnetic flux can linearly flow through the stator in the circumferential direction. SOLUTION: The rotary electric machine includes one rotor, and first and second stators. The first and second stators mutually face the rotor from opposite sides. The second stator has no coil but has a substantially circular and plate-like back yoke 31. The rotor includes a plurality of magnetic poles which are disposed at substantially equal intervals in the circumferential direction, and form magnetic pole surfaces 21b facing the second stator. An inner diameter Ro of the back yoke 31 is equal to or shorter than the minimum distance ri1 from among distances between a rotary shaft Q and a line segment obtained by connecting an arbitrary point in a one-side partial area 212b formed by dividing one pole surface 21b into two in the circumferential direction, and an arbitrary point in the other-end side partial area 211b of two magnetic pole surfaces 21b adjacent to one magnetic pole surface 21b on one side.
