The present invention relates to a check valve for water hammering prevention, more specifically to a check valve comprising: a first housing with an inlet and an outlet to let fluid in and out; a second housing of a hollow pipe shape with one end connected to the outlet and the other end in which a protrusion is formed; and an on-off valve composed of a body installed inside the second housing, a disc provided on one side of the body to open or shut the outlet, and a discharge hole formed on the edge of the disc, through which a fluid passes. In the check valve, an insert damper is extended from one side of the body, a first damping groove is formed on the inner edge of the first housing so that the insert damper is inserted and is buffered with filled fluid, a second damping groove is formed on the second housing so that the other side of the body is inserted and is buffered with filled fluid. Accordingly, the fluid filled in the first and second damping grooves serves as a damper to reduce impact by the on-off valve even when the on-off valve is rapidly opened or shut due to abrupt change in the flow of fluid, thus remarkably reducing water hammering.
