摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system which can change vehicle responsiveness without intensive development related to fail-safe and control logic and without significant requirements for control power. SOLUTION: A particular suspension control arm in a suspension having a large number of control arms is designed to create a certain range of axial stiffness levels, which corresponds to a range of toe changes occurring at a wheel being laterally loaded. Specifically, a semi-active device is arranged on a prescribed suspension control arm to allow a change in stiffness so as to produce a desired amount of toe change under the presence of lateral loading. This suspension arrangement, when applied to the rear axle of an automobile, can enhance controllability and stability over a wide range of operating conditions at a minimal level of control input energy and with robust fail-safe operation.
