PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cell growth inhibitor originated from a plant, capable of being produced by a simple method, low in toxicity, and effective for cancer cells. SOLUTION: The cell growth inhibitor includes the flower portion of elm or an extract thereof, and the leaf portion of japan or an extract thereof. The elm belongs to Ulmus hollandica, and is preferably selected from the group consisting of Vegeta, Commelin, Groenveid, Belgica, Clusius, Columella, Dodoens and Homestead. The cell growth inhibitor preferably comprises a dry powder of the flower portion of elm and a dry powder of the leaf portion of japan, or the extract of the flower portion of elm and the extract of the leaf portion of japan.
