A multi-band antenna includes an elongated first antenna element 28 and one or more elongated second antenna elements 30 extending in parallel spaced relationship with the first antenna element 28. A dielectric extends between the first antenna element 28 and the one or more further antenna elements 30 for maintaining physical spacing between those antenna elements. A basic form of the invention has first and second antenna elements 28, 30 that are, respectively, helical and linear, and either or both can be formed of either wire or metallic tape. Both antenna elements 28, 30 are preferably capacitively-coupled, with no direct connection. Other configurations are possible, for instance, the addition of a further linear antenna element 30 or further helical antenna element 28, or a further antenna element having linear and helical sections. An advantage of the antenna is that resonant frequency bands can be more closely spaced than previously; a correspondingly greater number of resonant frequency bands is then possible. |
