PURPOSE: A display method using an afterimage on a mobile terminal and the mobile terminal using the method are provided to display images using afterimages in the air using a display unit of the mobile terminal. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(100) is divided into an afterimage display area and a background area. A message storage unit(110) stores and manages at least one message in an image file type. A message input module(120) receives a message from the outside through a key input unit or a communication interface and stores the message in the message storage unit. An operation detecting sensor(140) detects swing and swing direction of the mobile terminal.
