PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably producing a carboxyl group-containing polymer having a re-contamination preventing function which is further improved than a conventional one when used for a detergent use. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the carboxyl group-containing polymer by polymerizing a carboxyl group-containing monomer in the presence of heavy metal ions, an aqueous solution containing a heavy metal salt and a carboxyl group-containing compound is supplied when the heavy metal salt is supplied to a polymerization system.
