PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical microscope that reduces the number of optical components inserted or retracted to switch an observing system and is easy in the switching operation. SOLUTION: The optical microscope 1 includes: an illuminating optical system OI having a half mirror for reflecting light emitted from a light source 7; and the observing optical system OO for observing a specimen by emitting a luminous flux, reflected by the half mirror, to the specimen 6 by an objective lens 10 and then imaging the luminous flux, reflected from the specimen, via the objective lens, half mirror, and imaging lens 9a. The half mirror is used as a polarization beam splitter 18. The observing optical system OO includes: differential interference prism 12b disposed on an optical axis AO between the polarization beam splitter and the objective lens 10 so as to be freely switched and a quarter wavelength plate.
