摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum arc melting method and its melting furnace, accurately making hot top control at the optimal time, in metal refining of titanium, titanium alloy, etc. SOLUTION: In the vacuum arc melting method, a consumable electrode is melted by arc, and the dropped metal is solidified for manufacturing ingots. An infrared heat sensor is provided for sensing upper surface temperature of the consumable electrode, at the time of hot stop operation in which melting is stopped when the consumable electrode is melted and dropped and the remaining electrode gets shorter. According to the sensed temperature of the upper surface of the consumable electrode, a starting time and/or an ending time is determined, which characterizes the vacuum arc melting method.
